Hi, my name is Gavin Haines. Iā€™m a London-based journalist and travel writer, and the associate editor of Positive News magazine.

While doom and gloom dominates the news cycle, I try to highlight the people and places driving progress in challenging times. I specialise in environmental reporting and solutions journalism, but my portfolio includes investigative pieces, interviews and features on anything from psychedelics to new Icelandic religions.

I believe that the revolution/ apocalypse should at least be a laugh, so I try to bring humour and humility to my reporting, eschewing earnestness and blind positivity.

Who buys it? I write for the BBC, Daily Telegraph, Independent, Lonely Planet, National Geographic and others.

Any good? My work has been shortlisted for various awards, including the EDF Media Awards (2010), British Travel Press Awards (2012), Travel Media Awards (2016), AITO Awards (2018) and Travel Media Awards (2023).

My journalism experience extends to radio. I have been invited to talk on BBC Radio 4, ABC Radio Australia and Public Radio International (US), among other networks.
